What would you do differently if you could do it all over again? Are these changes based on feedback that you may have received from friends, peers, family members, etc?
I would get more shots and live action I think. There are some clips that came out shaky or with some noise in the background, so it would have been good to get some footage from different angles and from two different cameras. We did that in most places which was helpful, but not everywhere. The feedback is just from my personal viewing of the video and from editing. I also wish I had more fun music on my computer that I could use to put in the background!! And I wish I had more time to make it creative and fun.
What is your reaction to the video recording/editing process? Please discuss any positive and negative reactions.
I think it's great! It is time consuming and hard work, but I really enjoyed it. I think it's very satisfying at the end to see your final product. There are so many cool things to do in IMovie, and it's very user-friendly. I had a lot of fun doing it, but again, I wish I had given myself more time to make it more creative and fun. All in all, we had a lot of fun creating it, and I enjoyed the process.
Do you think it would be possible to have students in your current/future classroom create a movie? Do you (will you) have the resources, time, and skills necessary to include such a project in your classroom? Please explain.
I think it would be possible if there were resources available such as movie editing software and cameras. At this time, I am not sure if those resources are available. It is really time consuming, and is not really relevant to my physics class, though it could produce a product that I could use for future classes. I guess as long as I could make sure that students knew the objective was to demonstrate a physics lesson, rather than to show their video editing skills, and they could produce an edited video in a timely manner, then I would do it. I'd also want to make sure that students knew how to edit the video already from another class, because I wouldnt want to have to teach it during my class time.
Did you learn anything new from the video editing/recording process? Please explain.
I learned that it never hurts to have an overload of photage! Background noise (wind, etc) can impede some cameras and some footage might be a little shaky, so it doesn't hurt to have two cameras going at the same time to show the shot of. It also helps to start and end your video a little before and after the shots. It makes transitions between slides a little smoother and makes the video less choppy. I also found that if you want to be creative, you should leave yourself plenty of time to do the video editing. :-)
